Can I listen to MP3 audiobooks in my car? And how?
Certainly, if your car is fitted with a CDMP3 player or with AUX socket to connect with an MP3 player such as iPod. Various players at various prices are available on the market. In the case of MP3s downloaded from the il Narratore site, to listen to them using an in-car CDMP3 player, you must first write them on to a blank CD ROM (this then becomes a CDMP3).
What difference is there between an MP3 player and a CDMP3 player?
An MP3 player is a simple small ingenious device which is no bigger than a cigarette lighter and contains enough memory to store a complete MP3 audiobook. In practice it is made up of audio MP3 file player software (and also in other formats) and a memory of particular capacity installed by the maker. There are many types, but the most popular are: iPod, Rio, etc. whose prices tend to be falling all the time. In general, all mobile MP3 players are supplied with headphones.
The CDMP3 player, instead, is a similar piece of equipment to an audio CD player (in fact you can listen to standard audio CDs on them) except that it is also capable of playing MP3 files. They can be of a Walkman type, desktop or car system. It costs more than an MP3 player but has many more functions.
What type of MP3 software players for PCs do you recommend for listening to audiobooks?

What type of MP3 mobile players do you recommend for listening to audiobooks?
MP3 mobile players differ through their memory capacities and the functions they offer. We recommend players with at least 128 or 256 Mb of memory, if not more. The most reliable are iPod , Creative MuVo or players like the RIO range which incorporate the bookmark function. This allows you to memorize the point at which you stopped listening and after switching off. When switching on, the player returns to the point indicated.
How many audiobooks can be stored in an MP3 mobile player?
The last generation of MP3 mobile players can store several gigabyte of memory. Even with limited available memory it is possible to store more than one audiobook with an average duration of 10 hours. With larger memories it is possible to store an entire audio library! In any case, we recommend you compare the memory of your mp3 player to the size of each product downloaded (all data is shown in the product specifications)..
Are the MP3 audiobook downloads I buy still under copyright?
Yes, all works by authors or translators still alive or who died less than 70 years ago. This is not the case for authors or translators who are not under copyright (over 70 years since their death). Il Narratore has, however, obtained the licenza SIAE (licence from the SIAE government copyright handling agency) for the distribution in digital form via Internet and has paid all due fees to the SIAE and/or copyright holders for the permission to reproduce the works in audiobook form. Naturally, the recordings themselves of these titles, produced by il Narratore, are protected by copyright. Therefore any unauthorized use of works downloaded from the site, other than personal use, will be prosecuted under the terms of copyright law.
Can I copy MP3 audiobooks downloaded from the site onto an audio CD or CDMP3 ?
Yes, as long as it is only for strictly personal use. To copy onto a standard audio CD you need to have the software to convert MP3 files into audio files, and in any case audio files are a lot bigger than MP3 files. Therefore, one audio CD can, at most, contain 70 minutes listening time. That means, to copy onto audio CD the entire work of 'Promessi Sposi' ' approximately 27 hours listening time ' you will need at least 23 CDs!!
What can I do to remember at what point in the listening of an audiobook I am at, in order to pick up again at the same point?
This depends on your mobile MP3 or the MP3 software-player installed on your PC. Some MP3 or CDMP3 players feature 'bookmarking' which is capable of automatically repositioning the player at the previous listening point left off during the previous session.
Can I access parts of the audiobook using the fast forward function?
Certainly. Many MP3 players are fitted with the fast forward or fast rewind functions. Some also have multiple speeds for these functions. For further information check the MP3 player's instruction manual.
How can I listen to your audiobooks on iTunes?
iTunes is a rather particular product compared to other mp3 players available online. Some audiobook users complain that they are unable to find the files they have downloaded or they get mixed up with files previously downloaded in the
Library. The problem arises when creating a playlist.
Our audiobooks, as explained above, are divided into mp3 tracks with number and name according to the chapter or the parts a work is divided in.
If they are put in iTunes, these mp3 files are added (in alphabetical order) to the iTunes
Library/Music and are mixed in with all the other files you have imported in this category. So, in order to avoid errors which may take time to rectify, you should create a playlist after having downloaded folders containing audiobook mp3 files and drag and drop the files into a playlist created specifically. To listen to them, all you have to do is open the appropriate playlist and you will find all the files in order from the first to the last.
Here is an example.
You have downloaded a zip file (mp3) of the audiobook
Edgar Allan Poe - La cassa oblunga e altri racconti.
After unzipping the file you will find a folder with the name of the book ('Poe_La_cassa_oblunga_e_altri_racconti') containing the mp3 files from 01 to 03 (three stories in this case).
Open iTunes, in the menu bar click on File and then
New Playlist (
Attention! NOT 'New Playlist Folder'!)A new playlist is created which requires a name.
Give it the book's name (or any name you wish, but one that enables you to find the book or part of the book).
In this example, we can call it 'Poe - La cassa oblunga'.
Then drag and drop all the mp3 files into this playlist.
Of course, in iTunes these same files are also imported into Library/Music and they are mixed in with all other files present, but it does not matter, at least you have a playlist created specifically for this audiobook which can listen to when and where you like or burn a CD or CDMP3.
A bit long-winded, but it works.
How can I listen to your audiobooks on an Apple iPod?
Any portable mp3 player can play our audiobooks which are downloaded.
With Apple iPod it is a little more complicated because the product is designed for listening to iTunes.
The best thing would be to have an iPod for using iTunes and podcasts, and another mp3 player for audiobooks.
But if this is not the case then RockBox's open source is of great help in resolving problems relating to incompatibility and above all for keeping mp3 audiobooks in order.
